What if the couple doesn’t have a smart phone, their smart phone isn’t working, or they can’t access the online system?
We have given you a packet of paper back-ups to use. If you or the client can enter the paper back up into the online system later on, that would be great. Otherwise just fax or scan+email the forms to us. Contact us for more forms, or print this New Couple Packet.
What if one partner, or both partners, decide they don’t want to participate anymore?
No problem. Ethics dictates that patients have the right to withdraw at any time for any reason. If they haven’t started the study yet, just save the materials for the next case. If both withdraw mid-way through the study, send us what you have on them and they are done for the study. If one wants to withdraw but the other wants to continue, continue on with one partner participating in the study. Please put a note about this on the tracking sheet for us to know why some data is missing. You might check to see if they have a concern about the study and email any concerns to us so we can keep track.
What if one or both partners aren’t interested in spiritual things?
If both partners indicate they aren’t interested in anything spiritual at all, they are likely not good candidates for this study. If just one partner is interested, they can both participate or one partner can participate in the study. It is their choice. Spiritual counseling can be implicit or explicit. Implicit counseling is when all parties understand there is a spiritual aspect to their lives, even if not specifically discussed in sessions. Explicit spiritual counseling specifically discusses spiritual things in session. Either implicit or explicit spiritual integration is welcome in our study. We want to know about both for the research.
How are we protecting the privacy of clients?
All client information in the online system uses pseudonyms (their street name). Though we plan to keep everything confidential anyway, we feel safe with the data since no one can ever know who the patients are, except for the therapist. To ensure confidentiality, it is essential clients use pseudonyms that are truly pseudonyms, even if they think it’s no big deal to use their real names. Likewise, do not use real client names anywhere in the Therapist Session Checklist. The online system also has secure SSL Encryption for all questionnaires.
